Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Approach to historical study through Historiography. While the past is unalterable, history (or historiography) changes, as it is a way of understanding the past. Thus, learning history does not mean merely memorizing as many as possible historical facts about the past; rather, it means appreciating the vicissitudes and variations in the past ways of understanding the past. As the modern methods of historical study were born in 19th-century Europe, it is especially important to learn about the long trajectory of European ways of understanding the past. |
