Number of Credits 2 Course Type Lecture
Target Year 1st year students or above Target Student
Language Japanese Day/Period Wed.4
Instructor name YAMAGUCHI YOSHIAKI (Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Senior Lecturer)
Outline and Purpose of the Course This is a series of lectures on the physiology of the human body, which provides the foundation for medical and biological pharmacy. In order to understand physiology well, it is necessary to have a basic knowledge of the anatomy of the human body. After explaining the basic structure of the human body, these lectures will discuss the individual, organ, and cell levels. We will begin with basic cell physiology, which is related to the functions of the entire body, and explain the basic principles needed to understand physiological phenomena scientifically. After that, we will discuss the physiological functions of each organ in the body, based on its anatomical characteristics.
Course Goals 1. Explain the basic anatomy of the human body.
2. Explain basic cell physiology, related to the cell function in the body and based on physicochemical principles.
3. Explain the organs that make up the human body, the names and morphologies of the organ systems, their position in the body, and their functional characteristics.
Schedule and Contents 1. Introduction to physiology
2. The origin of the human body
3. The chemical composition of the body
4. The morphological basis of cell physiology
5. The physicochemical basis of cell physiology
6. The biochemical basis of cell physiology
7. The anatomy and physiology of the brain and nervous system
8. The anatomy and physiology of the sensory system
9. The anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system
10. The anatomy and physiology of the endocrine system
11. The anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
12. The anatomy and physiology of the digestive system
13. The anatomy and physiology of energy-metabolism organs
14. The anatomy and physiology of the urinary system
15. The anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system
Evaluation Methods and Policy The evaluation will be based on the following: regular tests 90%; small tests during lectures and/or mid-term exams: 10%
Course Requirements None
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Preparation and review of lecture content using the distributed printouts. After each lecture, students will take a small test about the content that they have just studied, and the answers will be explained at the beginning of the next lecture.
