Outline and Purpose of the Course This course offers an introduction to the study of literary stylistics. Students will learn how to identify, analyze and interpret specific linguistic features in French literary texts while reinforcing their grammatical and lexical skills.
Course Goals This class is designed to help students:

- use the linguistic structures which are the most appropriate to express what they intend to say
- identify and analyze specific formal features in French literary texts
Schedule and Contents After an introductory lecture (week 1) presenting the goals and the exercices of the class, we will work on various excerpts from French literary classics, and practice exercices on grammatical structures, lexical fields, stylistical, linguistical and rhetorical features (weeks 2-14).

Evaluation Methods and Policy The students will be evaluated through continuous assessment : written essays, but also participation (class
attendance, classroom behavior, personal work)
Course Requirements This course is meant for third year students who are specializing in French Literature, but every student who wants or must use French language in their research can find an interest in it.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) It is necessary to read the texts before the class.
