Outline and Purpose of the Course The media has a deep connection with gender (social and cultural gender differences) in many ways. Consider the differences in the way "men" and "women" are expressed in advertisements, dramas, and news reports, as well as the differences in the way men and women use the media. We can see the difference between men and women in each aspect: (1) the sender , (2) the message conveyed , and (3) the recipient of the media. In this class, we will examine the social function of gender in each aspect of "sender", "message," and "recipient," referring to theories such as sociology, media research, and gender theory.
Course Goals Gender is something that is practiced and constructed daily through various processes of daily life, such as discipline and school, from the time a person is born and labeled as a particular gender. It has been argued that the media plays a large role in the construction of this gender in modern society.
By focusing on the various aspects of the media and understanding the gender nature of each process, students will understand the perspective of media research and at the same time understand the construction of gender.
