Outline and Purpose of the Course | There is a large number of ethnic minorities and languages spoken in Russia. In this course, we will outline the various languages of Siberia, which are geographically and linguistically close to Japan, and understand some languages through grammar and text reading. | |||
Course Goals |
After examiningthe various languages distributed in Siberia, you will learn regional linguistics and sociolinguistics information. Students will be able to understand the structure of specific languages based on vocabulary, dictionaries, and gloss, and will be able to consider linguistic topics. |

Evaluation Methods and Policy | Evaluate via several assignments (60%) and a final summary report (40%) during class. | |||

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) |
Please look at the literature on Russian and Siberian ethnic groups that can be read in Japanese. Also, please spend time reading the literature distributed in the class and solving the problem. Explore each linguistic topic with interest so that students can make typological comparisons with the language they are interested in and major in. |
