Outline and Purpose of the Course | An important figure in German idealism, Hegel helped bring social philosophy to the forefront of philosophy. This course reviews Germany’s social philosophy from the 19th century to the 20th century. Social philosophy?the study and interpretation of society and social institutions in terms of ethical values rather than empirical relations?was formed in response to the social struggles of the times and Hegel’s influence and opposition. This course aims to deepen students’ understanding of our modern society. | |||
