Outline and Purpose of the Course The aim is for attending students to report on the process of the graduate research they are carrying out (theme determination, review of past research, collection of historical materials, examination and analysis, discussion and prioritization, writing), and to complete their graduate papers after deepening their research through mutual discussions amongst themselves.
Course Goals Achieve the following three objectives: (1) Have each participating student identify research topics from among themes aligned with their interests, and decide their graduate research theme, target region, and method, (2) Develop the ability to grasp trends in research of chosen theme, and understand the problems and issues that must be addressed; (3) Carry out original survey research and analysis to complete graduate paper.
Schedule and Contents In the second semester, attending students will attend seminars taught by different instructors. Attending students will report on the progress of their research in multiple presentations at each stage towards completing their graduate papers, and receive feedback and advice. Around the third session, a joint seminar will be held, and all students will provide simple reports of their progress for in-depth discussion. Attending students will be required to fully address any comments made in discussions in their graduate papers. Each instructor give his or her time to instruct students on surveys and analysis on an individual basis.
1st: Interim reporting of graduate research and confirmation of graduate paper title by attending students (all students: joint seminar)
2nd - 14th: Interim reporting of graduate research and discussion by attending students (A joint seminar in the 2nd and split seminars in the 11th)
15th: Overall review and feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluated according to performance based upon participation in seminars and presentations.
Course Requirements Students are expected to have taken Seminar 2A in advance.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students will conduct analysis of research, summarize their results in charts and tables, and then determine the format of their papers and write them. And prepare outline for seminar presentation.
