Outline and Purpose of the Course	The aim is for attending students to report on the process of the graduate research they are carrying out (theme determination, review of past research, collection of historical materials, examination and analysis, discussion and prioritization, writing), and to complete their graduate papers after deepening their research through mutual discussions amongst themselves.
Course Goals	Achieve the following three objectives: (1) Have each participating student identify research topics from among themes aligned with their interests, and decide their graduate research theme, target region, and method; (2) Develop the ability to grasp trends in research of chosen theme, and understand the problems and issues that must be addressed; (3) Carry out original survey research and analysis to complete graduate paper.
Schedule and Contents	From April until the start of summer break, attending students will determine a theme according to their individual interests, read relevant past literature, explore survey and analysis methods, and then will examine the appropriate survey areas and historical materials. Thereafter, they will carry out field work and collect historical materials. Attending students shall report on the progress of their research in several presentations, and receive feedback and advice. Attending students are required to fully address the issues raised in discussions in their graduate papers. 1st: Introduction 2nd - 14th: Introduction of literature and discussion by attending students 15th: Presentation of plans for surveys and analysis for graduate research (all students)
Evaluation Methods and Policy	Evaluated according to performance based upon participation in seminars and presentations.
