Outline and Purpose of the Course	The aim is for attending students to identify their research interests while deepening their understanding of basic research methods, concepts, and the latest research topics in various fields of geography, and connect it to graduate research.
Course Goals	Achieve the following three objectives: (1) Develop the ability to grasp trends in geography research, and precisely understand and critically read the content of past research ; (2) Have each participating student identify research topics from among themes aligned with their interests, and narrow down graduate research themes and target regions; (3) Master the competencies needed to carry out research, including the ability to pursue originality and employ logic, composition, and written expression when writing papers.
Schedule and Contents	The purpose is to learn basic research methods to specialize in geography. Attending students first learn methods of searching for literature, starting with use of the Geography Literature Catalog edited by the Human Geography Association. Attending students will give presentations according to the following guidelines and a presentation schedule decided at the start of the year. Students will search for relevant literature according to their own interests, read it with an awareness of pertinent issues, identify any unclear areas, summarize the content, create outlines, and present them. After presentations, all attending students will discuss them. In addition to adjusting the annual seminar schedule and providing venues for discussion, the lead instructor will also introduce special areas for each student and provide individual guidance, as well as opportunities to observe awareness of issues, research methods, and the latest discussions in various fields. 1st: Introduction 2nd - 14th: Introduction of literature and discussion among students Review the 2nd to 14th seminars, give feedback to students, and explain summer break assignments
Evaluation Methods and Policy	Evaluated according to overall consideration of performance based upon seminar participation and presentations (80%), and assignment submissions (20%). It is important to attend seminars and participate in discussions, and frequent absences will result in a failing grade.
