Outline and Purpose of the Course The purpose of this course is to have third- and fourth-year students select research topics that interest them and spend two years building the foundations needed to deepen their sociological pursuit of these topics in order to complete a graduation thesis. Participants will find their own research topics and then seek out and closely read foundational literature on those topics. Based on that, each student will take on the challenge of clarifying the meaning and significance of the research topic they are tackling and draft reports in the style of a thesis.
Course Goals (1) Learn the fundamental and basic information of previous sociological studies that pertain to your own interests.
(2) Each student will find a research topic to pursue over the course of two years.
(3) Learn methods for writing an academic paper.
Schedule and Contents Week 1: Introduction: explanation of class objectives and introduction of previous graduation theses.
Weeks 2-3: Each student will give short presentations on topics that interest them and present basic literature.
Weeks 4-15: Along with reading fundamental literature and introducing the content, students will present their own research plans based on this material (three students per class session).
Evaluation Methods and Policy Assessments based on presentations and statements made in the seminar, as well as the final report.
Presentations/statements and the report will each account for 50% of the grade.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Closely read and prepare presentations on the basic literature assigned.
Arrange to write reports based on the comments they receive on their presentations.
