Outline and Purpose of the Course In this course participants select an English academic paper on human geography based on their research interest and then, translate it and provide a bibliographical introduction. The purpose of this lecture is to enhance participants' reading comprehension and understanding of the latest research trends in their interest fields and to develop their own studies. Basically, participants should search the paper from academic journals of geography such as Progress in Human Geography/ Professional Geographer/ Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers/ Environment and Planning/ The Annals of the American Association of Geographers/ Geographical Review/ Gender, Place and Culture. They need to consult with the teacher and decide on which paper they will give a presentation no later than a week prior to the presentation date. Presenters distribute thier selected paper to other participants at least one week in advance and prepare a handout for their presentation. Other participants must read the papers in advance for each class and give a comment or question at least once in discussion. Supplementary explanations on the papers are provided for deeper comprehension as necessary.
Course Goals The participants are expected to improve their skills of seaching English academic papers, to enhance their reading comprehension of English academic texts and their understanding of the latest trends of geography and to build up their geographical perspective on phenomena of their interest.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Presentation is assigned to all participants at least once.
The final grade will be evaluated according to effort of presentation (50 %) and active participation in class
discussion (50%).
A participant who copy-pastes the trasnlated texts by auto translation tools will fully lose presentation score
(50%).
A participant who absents from the class over four times without special reason cannot get the credits.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) A participant prepares a handout that contains translation of the selected paper and a bibliographical introduction for each presentation.
Other participants must read that texts and note a comment or question in advance for each class.
