Outline and Purpose of the Course | In this course, we read closely Francesco Petrarca's "Rerum Vulgarium Fragmenta," which represents the origin of Italian lyric poetry. The aim of the course is to deepen our understanding of the Tuscan lyric tradition, by paying attention not only to the content of the individual works but also to their formal characteristics. | |||

(1) To acquire the ability to read and understand poetry accurately. (2) To deepen understanding of the formal beauty of Italian verse. (3) To experience the appeal of classical literature. |

Week 1: Introduction Weeks 2-14: Students read the text and check the rhythm and rhetoric of Petrarca’s lyrics. The course will emphasize accuracy in reading. Week 15: Feedback |
