Outline and Purpose of the Course We will read Ali Akbar Khatay's Persian work Khatay-nama (Book of China), where he explains the state of affairs in the Ming China. This book was written at Istanbul in the early 16th century and presented to the Sultan Suleyman I later. The author does not always relates historical facts. However, its fictional descriptions will lead us to various ways of reading. For example, based on the work, we will be able to consider translation of culture. Recently, a researcher analyzes the work from the viewpoint of the criticism against the Ottoman government and the penetration of Islamic mysticism.
