Outline and Purpose of the Course  By actually reading historical materials, students learn how to operate historical materials, which are the basis of modern history research.
 In exercise IA, we will practice the investigation and reading of historical materials in the study of modern and contemporary history of Japan.
Course Goals  The academic basis of historical research lies in the criticism of historical materials, and further research is impossible without mastering the procedure to extract reliable information from collected historical materials. While actually deciphering historical materials, the goal is to acquire basic methods of manipulation of historical materials and methods of criticism of historical materials.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Comprehensive evaluation by regular attitude scores and reports. Absences without a valid reason will be deducted.
Course Requirements  Exercise I is a compulsory course in modern history. As a general rule, when you are in your third year, you must take 2 credits for each of A and B.
 Students are eligible to study at least the 2nd grade only when there are special circumstances such as studying abroad, but in such cases, they must take 2 credits for each A and B, and 4 credits in total, by graduation.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Everyone must read the literature and historical materials that are handled in the class. Other than the rapporteur, they are also required to prepare questions about literature and historical materials and participate in discussions.
