| Outline and Purpose of the Course |
東南アジアは、イスラーム世界の「周縁」に位置しながらも現在では非常に多くのムスリム人口を抱えている。この地域に住む人々のイスラームの信仰はしばしば表層的なものと見做されてきた。しかし、この宗教が東南アジア社会の中で歴史的に重要な役割を果たしてきたことを無視すべきではない。本講義では、東南アジア島嶼部を中心に、前近代から近代までのイスラームの歴史的展開について解説する。特にイスラーム世界の「中心」である中東アラブ地域との関係について、史料に参照しながら検討していく。 Southeast Asia, although located on the periphery of the Muslim world, now has a very large Muslim population. The Islamic faith of the inhabitants has often been viewed as superficial. However, we should not ignore the fact that this religion has historically played an important role in Southeast Asian society. In this lecture, I will explain the historical development of Islam from pre-modern to modern times, focusing on the maritime Southeast Asia. In particular, we will examine the relationship with the Arab Middle East, the center of the Muslim world, refering to historical documents. |

| Course Goals |
・前近代から現代までの東南アジアにおけるイスラームの歴史について基礎的な知識を獲得する。 ・東南アジアを事例として、イスラーム世界の中に存在する地域性や多様性、そして中心・周縁の関係について理解する。 Upon the success of completion of this course, students (1) will acquire a basic knowledge of the history of Islam in Southeast Asia from pre-modern times to the present, and (2) will understand the regional characteristics and diversity that exists within the Islamic world, and the relationship between the center and the periphery, using Southeast Asia as a case study. |
