Outline and Purpose of the Course In this seminar, participants give presentations and subsequently debate them, and thereby master specific archaeological methodologies and knowledge, and learn how to make presentations and build arguments. The aim is for undergraduates to narrow down their graduate paper research theme, and for graduate students to deepen their own research.
Course Goals Draw upon information from archaeological and historical resources and related literature, and thus be able to learn techniques for constructing arguments based on specific methodologies. Master ways of building arguments that will lead to higher-level discussions through understanding of presentation content.
Schedule and Contents Spend the year polishing archaeology presentation and debating skills.
In the first semester, presentations on research and assigned papers will be assigned according to each student's awareness and interest in issues (the latter may be skipped depending on the number of participants). In the second semester, themes will be established according to each student's research interests, and then students will report and discuss their research. Be sure to attend the first session as presentations will be scheduled according to the number of students present at that time.
*If last year's difficulties are not resolved, then classes may be switched to a non in-person format. Changes will be announced as soon as possible, so attending students should make sure to check class-related announcements.

Class will roughly proceed as follows despite changes depending on the number of participants.
[First semester]
1st: Explanation of first semester lesson plan and establishing reporting order
2nd - 15th: Reporting and discussion
[Second semester]
1st - 15th: Reporting and discussion of each student's research theme
Evaluation Methods and Policy   Overall evaluation according to presentation content, participation in discussions, and quality of paper writing. Absences by presenters will be considered forfeitures of credit.
Course Requirements Students should have taken or plan to take archaeology lab, as it will greatly increase archaeology expertise.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students actively observe and survey related relics and archaeological sites in order to complete assignments and realize presentations and reports. . In addition, each student should actively participate in and contribute to museum tours, field briefing tours, material surveys, and archaeological surveys, and thereby discover themes and deepen their knowledge of archeology.
