Outline and Purpose of the Course  Sculptures from the Asuka period received the culture of the continent from the beginning of the 7th century until 710 and achieved interesting development. The purpose of this lecture is to discuss the style, technique, and iconography in accordance with concrete works in detail, and to clarify the features of the Asuka period sculpture.
Course Goals  By studying the latest research results in the history of Japanese sculpture in detail, we aim to understand the diverse development of the history of sculpture, and to deepen insight not only on art history but also on religion and society at that time.

Evaluation Methods and Policy  The results of the report imposed at the end of the semester should be emphasized (80%), and the evaluation should take regular attitude score into account (participation in classes) (20%).
 In the evaluation, the degree of understanding based on concrete works on the development of Japanese sculpture history in the Asuka period is evaluated, mainly with reference to related academic fields.
