| Outline and Purpose of the Course |
I will explore the period of the Catholic Church in the early modern world by reading the first volume of Kerckelycke historie van de gheheele werelt ("History of all the World Church") by Cornelius Hazart, a Flemish Jesuit in the 17th century. Of the four volumes of this book, the first volume deals with the Catholic mission in each region outside Europe. The author has written many polemic works against Protestants, which seems to be the intention of writing this book as well, but I want to read this book as one that highlights the composition of the Jesuit and Catholic church world missions rather than as a confessional context. |

1. The outline of the early modern world can be grasped through the global activities of the Jesuits. 2. From the difference in the situation of missions between each region, comparative historical consideration becomes possible. |
