Outline and Purpose of the Course | In this class, we will read the novel "Das Marmorbild" (1826) by the late Romantic writer Eichendorff. Set in the Italian town of Lucca, this work tells the story of a young man, Florio, who escapes the temptation of Venus and is connected to the innocent girl Bianca under the guidance of the poet Fortunato. | |||

Week 1: Introduction Explanation of Eichendorff's life and works. Weeks 2-14: Reading Texts Close reading of the first half of the work. Week 15: Summary Summary of class content. |
