Outline and Purpose of the Course In this class, we shall cultivate skill in writing sentences in Russians by using previously mastered Russian vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Emphasis shall be upon practicing translating one type of syntax into another. The grammar structure of Russian and Japanese differ greatly in cultural background, and thus naturally there are phrasings peculiar to Russian and phrasings peculiar to Japanese. Hence, simply translating vocabulary may result in Russian that is not understandable or is awkward. Being able to switch out vocabulary might help you expand or master your own vocabulary, but you must get used to switching out syntax, which requires proper training. syntax The aim of this class is to become familiar with typical patterns in translating syntax, and through repeated practice further improve command of Russian.
Course Goals (1) Become familiar with frequently used Russian expressions, and grasp their relationships to corresponding Japanese expressions.
