| Outline and Purpose of the Course | We will study parts of the great book of former professor at the College de France, Rolf A. Stein: La civilisation tibetaine. It is a master work, offering a complete geographical, historical, social, cultural, religious and philosophical overview of Tibetan civilization. The author has used Tibetan and Chinese original sources as well as the accounts of foreign travelers and modern scholarship. We will particularly examined passages dealing with the Tibetan assimilation of Buddhism, placing Tibet as the crossroads of the great civilizations of India and China. | ||
