Outline and Purpose of the Course To ascertain the basic structure of Chinese studies by understanding ancient Chinese book catalog writing guidelines.
Course Goals Able to immediately find ancient Chinese books as needed depending on purpose or usage by becoming proficient in reading and comprehending the structure and content of various ancient Chinese book catalogs (including databases)
Schedule and Contents Explain cataloging of ancient Chinese books and sampling bibliographic information.
Content and order may change depending on the degree of progress.
1st: Guidance
2nd: Definition of ancient Chinese books (relationship of ancient Chinese books and catalogs）
3rd: Purpose of creating cards (basics of bibliographies）
4th: Book titles (settling on a title）
5th: Book titles (engraving and binding）
6th: Book titles (identifying ancient Chinese books）
7th: Volume numbers (features of bibliographies）
8th: Compilers (involvement in books）
9th: Compilers (information on people involved in books）
10th: 鈔刻 (duplication technique）
11th: 鈔刻 (year of publication and publisher）
12th: 鈔刻 (bottom labeling）
13th: 鈔刻 (special information）
14th: 叢書・坿出・地志 card creation
15th: Conclusion
Feedback method will be explained in class.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Mainly papers, as well as performance (participation in class, etc.).
Evaluation is based 60% on papers and 40% on performance.
High grades will be given for clear signs of seriously undertaking writing of papers, such as referring to original text.
