Outline and Purpose of the Course The purpose of this course is to gain comprehensive knowledge on exemplary works and authors of Chinese classical literature, with a particular focus on works of fiction from the Six Dynasties and Tang dynasty periods. As this is also a course in the Japanese Language Education field, we will use many works found in high school textbooks on the Chinese classics. However, we will also further examine these works by including comparative points of view from foreign language literature and world literature.
Course Goals Understand the basic facts of classical Chinese literature, primarily works of fiction from the Six Dynasties era and the Tang dynasty, and cultivate the ability to independently engage with reading related research results and topics (reports).
Schedule and Contents The class will generally proceed as follows. However, there may be changes in the sequence or frequency of topics, depending on both the level of progress made in the lectures and student comprehension.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Mini reports in class (50%) and final report (50%).
