Outline and Purpose of the Course Beginner seminar for Sanskrit basic grammar learners. Learn original Sanskrit (Vedic) grammar and the basic methodology of original text reading, while reading original texts from the Vedas (scriptures).
Course Goals Learn techniques for accurately analyzing Sanskrit sentences, and master the basics of reading comprehension for any era or genre of Sanskrit literature. Especially master reading comprehension of original (Vedic) Sanskrit having unique characteristics in word form, etc.
Schedule and Contents Use A Sanskrit Reader by C.R. Lanman, as a textbook and study the sections citing Vedas scripture.
The cited Vedas scripture includes a wide range of genres, such as rhyming hymns and ritualistic prose interpretations of theology, and touch upon various literary styles and content. Participants first use glossaries in A Sanskrit Reader to translate original text and present it in class. However, additionally, they shall be introduced to specialized books in class needed for actually researching original text, and get started on how to use them.

1st - Introduction to Vedas scripture.
2nd - 15th Close reading of text (Rigveda, Maitr?yan? Samhit?, ?atapatha-br?hmana)
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluated according to performance (preparation for readings and review of class content).
Course Requirements Sanskrit grammar trainee.
