Outline and Purpose of the Course In this class, we will take up one literary motif every week and historically consider what role it has played in German literature. The first half of the class will cover nature-related motives such as mountains and the sea, and the second half of the class will cover psychological motives such as dreams and madness.
Course Goals ・Learn information on the writers and works of German literature.
・Deepen understanding of the history of literary motifs.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be assessed based on comment papers during class (50%) and final reports (50%).
The final report will be assessed based on the level of achieved objectives.
Course Requirements No prior knowledge of German is required.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) As much as possible, read the works taken up in class on your own.
Textbooks Textbooks/References Handouts will be distributed.
