Outline and Purpose of the Course This class is for students that have completed the Primary French course or with an equivalent knowledge of French (A1.1).

Students will deepen their knowledge of the French grammar and vocabulary, and also practice pronunciation and conversation under the guidance of a native teacher. Each lecture will be conducted in simple English and French.A great emphasis will be put on oral communication in French.
Course Goals Students will be able to use French for communication in a foreign environment, reinforce their ability satisfy concrete needs such as introducing one self or giving essential informations, but also to develop communication skills at a more advanced level.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be evaluated on their oral skills during the class, based on their answers to the questions of the teacher and their involvement during class activities such as group talks in French. This participation counts as 40% of their final grade. There will be a midterm written exam (MCQ, 30 minutes)including listening comprehension and vocabulary that counts for 20% of the final grade and a final written exam (MCQ, 30 minutes)including listening comprehension and vocabulary that counts for 40% of the final grade.

A+: outstanding class participation & results for the midterm and final exam.
A : consistently good class participation & results for the midterm and final exam.
B : good general attitude, effort & results for the midterm and final exam.
C : adequate participation & results for the midterm and final exam.
D : Inadequate attendance and participation, poor results for the exams.
Course Requirements Refer to "Handbook of Liberal Arts and General Education Courses".
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) After each class, students should review the lesson that was studied during the class from their textbook or their personal notes, memorize the vocabulary and phrases (individually or as a study group), listen again to the audio tracks used during the class and practice pronunciation. It takes about 2 hours.
At the end of each class, the teacher will ask the students to read 2-3 pages from the textbook,translate and memorize new words from those pages for the next class. It takes 1 or 2 hours.
