Outline and Purpose of the Course The objective of this seminar is to introduce the central concepts of contemporary Japanese philosophy through the relationship between philosophy and politics. To do so, we will investigate how Japanese philosophy during the 20th century thought about the problem of nation, culture and identity.
Course Goals In this class, students will learn to:
-critically reflect on the universality of philosophy
-develop a critical perspective on the relationship between philosophy and politics
-form their own opinion on the problems of culture, nationalism and identity
