Outline and Purpose of the Course 本講義の目的は、学習や研究活動のためのライティング・スキルの習得である。このために、次の練習を行う。1）文を正確に書く、2）パラグラフ・ライティング、3）論拠を示す、4）エッセイを構成する。

The purpose of this course is to develop writing skills for study in Japan. We will learn 1) write sentences correctly, 2) Paragraph writing, 3) present an argument, 4) structure an essay.
Course Goals 本授業の到達目標は、以下の通りである。
・JLPT N2/CEFR B2レベル相当に到達する。
・自分が関心を持つさまざまな話題について、明瞭、詳細に書くことができる。
・実際、もしくは想像上の出来事や経験について、複数の見解を相互に関連づけ、当該のジャンルの書記習慣に従って、明瞭かつ詳細に記述文を書くことができる。
・論拠、論点を整然と展開して、エッセイやレポートを書くことができる。重要な点や関連する補足事項の詳細を、適切に強調することができる。
Course goals are as follows.
・To attain a level of proficiency equivalent to the JLPT N2/CEFR B2 level.
・Can write clear, detailed descriptions on a variety of subjects related to his/her field of interest.
・Can write clear, detailed descriptions of real or imaginary events and experiences, marking the relationship between ideas in clear connected text, and following established conventions of the genre concerned.
・Can write an essay or report which develops an argument systematically with appropriate highlighting of significant points and relevant supporting detail.

※ The schedule may change depending on students’ abilities.
Evaluation Methods and Policy ・「参加態度」30％、と「提出課題」70％で評価する。
・成績評価基準のさらなる詳細については授業中に指示する。
・全回数の三分の一以上の欠席者は評価の対象としない。

・The student’s final grade will be based on 1) in-class participation (30%), and 2) assignments (70%).
・Details of the grading method and evaluation criteria will be provided in class.
・Students who are absent from 1/3 or more of the total number of class sessions will not be evaluated.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) 配布されたワークシートを予習します。
授業時の指示にしたがって、文章を作成し、提出します。

Students are expected to do the worksheets as preparation for class.
Students will write a composition (essay) at home based on the classwork and hand it in according to the schedule.
