Outline and Purpose of the Course 本授業の目的は、学習生活を送るうえで必要となる、会話能力の習得である。このために、次の練習を行う。1)自分について非公式に話す。2）物の様子や状況を説明する。3）論理的に話す。

The purpose of this course is to develop conversation skills for study in Japan. Students will learn to 1) talk about their Self-introduction in informal settings, 2) explain about things, circumstances, 3) speak logically.
Course Goals 本授業の到達目標は、以下の通りである。
・JLPT N2/CEFR B2レベル相当に到達する。
・自分の関心のある分野に関連した、広範囲な話題について、明確かつ詳細に記述、プレゼンテーションができる。事項を補足しながら、関連事例を挙げて、主張を強化、展開することができる。
・はっきりとした議論を展開できる。補助的観点や関連事例を詳細に補足し、自分の見解を展開し、話を続けることができる。
・関連説明、論拠、コメントを述べることによって、議論で自分の意見を説明したり、維持したりできる。
・言語化する際に深刻な誤りを犯すことなく、いろいろな場面で自分自身の述べたいことを表現することができる。

Course goals are as follows.
・To attain a level of proficiency equivalent to the JLPT N2/CEFR B2 level.
・Can give clear, detailed descriptions and presentations on a wide range of subjects related to his/her field of interest, expanding and supporting ideas with subsidiary points and relevant examples.
・Can develop a clear argument, expanding and supporting his/her points of view at some length with subsidiary points and relevant examples.
・Can account for and sustain his/her opinions in discussion by providing relevant explanations, arguments and comments.
・Can express him or herself appropriately in situations and avoid crass errors of formulation.

Evaluation Methods and Policy 「参加態度」30％、「口頭発表・課題」70％で評価する。「口頭発表・課題」の評価は、「パフォーマンス評価」として、3回（20％、20％、30％）に分けて実施する。
・成績評価基準の更なる詳細については、授業中に指示する。
・5回以上の欠席者は評価の対象としない。
・The student's final grade will be based on 1) in-class participation/attitude (30%) and 2) oral presentations and assignments (70%). Performance assessment will be held three times (20%, 20%, 30%).
・Details of the grading method and evaluation criteria will be provided in class.
・Students who are absent from 5 or more class sessions will not be evaluated.

Students are required to practice and review the material they have studied in class each week.
