Outline and Purpose of the Course |
This course aims to cultivate students' social entrepreneurial minds to address social and environmental issues, and empower them to develop their business idea further to attract initial funds and other necessary resources as a start-up. More specifically, the participants would deepen the significance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and gain skills to firm up their business ideas further to contribute to the achievement of SDGs. Social entrepreneurs will share their knowledge and experience to stimulate the participants, and experts in the relevant fields, such as design thinking, pitch effectiveness, etc, will run workshops for skills enhancement. |

Course Goals |
Students’ understanding on SDGs and their own roles to address them deepens Students’ entrepreneurial minds and creativity will be cultivated further and advance their own business ideas to address SDGs. Students’ gain specific skills for business development. |

Schedule and Contents |
Course plan/schedule ※ This course is every 2 weeks. (Apr-18, May-02, May-16, May-30, Jun-13, Jun-27, Jul-11) 1. Introduction (Murai) Briefing of the course flow, content, assignments, and schedules, etc. 2. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - introduction (Murai) 3-4 Social Entrepreneurship (Kuno, & another social entrepreneur) What defines “Social Entrepreneurship”; How to develop business model; Investors’ perspectives; etc 5-7. Business model development workshop - design thinking framework, etc 8. Students’ Initial Business Idea presentation 10. On incubation and accelerator programs 11-12 Fund-raising/Investor's perspective - Angel investors, ESG investment, Impact assessment, etc 13-14 Effective pitch - lecture and workshop (Halcyon House staff www.halcyonhouse.org) 15 Students’ Business Proposal Showcase (Kuno, Murai) Students finalize business plans to address any topics of SDGs, make a pitch in front of practitioners, and receive feedback. Tutorial, mentoring and coaching available by various lecturers prior to this date |

50% Class attendance and contribution; 35% Business proposal content ("Investor's deck”) and final pitch; 15% final report |

Course Requirements |
- Basic understanding of social entrepreneurship - Specific business idea that contributes to the achievement of any of the Sustainable Development Goals. Just an idea is fine, but should be firm enough to develop further during this class. |
