| Outline and Purpose of the Course | In this course, students will improve their academic English ability in economics by intensive reading, class discussion, and class presentation. Students are supposed to be divided into several groups. Each group will organize a presentation at each class. The content of presentation includes one or two academic articles with the same theme. Prior to each class, I will assign these articles to the presenters. The presentation materials mainly come from academic journals. Students can get access to these materials through internet or university E-database. Except for the presenters, each student is required to ask at least one question to the presenters at each class, to sharpen her/his critical thinking. | |||
| Course Goals | This course is aimed at helping students improve English reading and presentation skills in economics, based on the class presentations and discussions of journal articles. | |||
| Schedule and Contents |
First class: Introduction and guidance Regular class: One group of students will organize a presentation to talk about the given theme, which is assigned prior to the class. During the presentation, the participants are encouraged to ask questions taking another side of the viewpoints of the theme. Criticism is welcome The articles are mainly selected from American Economic Review, Annual Review of Economics, and Journal of Economic Literature. Total：14 classes, 1 Feedback session. |
