この授業では、英語リーディング・スキルの習得と向上を目的とする。学術的文体の英文を精読・多読し、構文や文法を把握すると共に、著者の意図を適正に解釈する力を身につけ、英語による議論の構成を学習する。 |

| Schedule and Contents |
この授業で扱うテキストは、社会言語学の第一人者であるDeborah Tannenによる著作である。会話スタイルや対人関係の志向性に関する男女の相違に焦点を当て、その相違が職場においてどのような問題を引き起こし得るか、豊富な具体によって示されている。場面は職場ではあるが、学生生活にも多くの点で当てはまる、身近な事例が扱われている。卓越した書き手である著者による文章は、学術書としての論理性と巧みな表現に富んでおり、大学生の英語学習には最適である。 テキストは第1章と第2章を中心に、以下のスケジュールで読み進める予定。 Chapter 1 Women and Men Talking on the Job 第1回：Introduction 第2-3回： When not asking directions is dangerous to your health 第4回： To ask or not to ask 第5回：Negotiating from the inside out or the outside in 第6回：When is the wage gap a communication gap 第7回：More on negotiation styles 第8回：中間テスト Chapter 2 "I'm sorry, I'm not apologizing" 第9回-11回： Saying "I'm sorry" when you're not 第12回： Taking blame and influencing people 第13回： Giving criticism 第14回： Ritual fighting 第15回：期末テスト 第16回：フィードバック 各回、指定の範囲について小テストを実施する。 受講者による和訳やプレゼンテーションにより、内容および英文解釈を確認していく。 |

| Evaluation Methods and Policy |
5回以上欠席した場合は成績評価の対象としない。 以下の割合で、総合的に評価する。 ・小テスト、中間テストおよび期末テスト：80% ・平常点: 20% 詳細は初回授業時のガイダンスで説明する。 |
