Outline and Purpose of the Course 英語による学術的文章を読み通し、学術英語の運用に必須の技能を伸ばすことがこの授業の目的です。具体的には、専門的または高度な語彙・表現の学習、複雑な文構造の理解、的確な文章の解釈といった項目について、技能の向上を図ります。
Course Goals ・学術英語に見られる比較的フォーマルな英語に慣れる。
・学術英語で用いられる語句や表現、文構造が理解できるようになる。
・学術英語で用いられる文章パターン(論理の流れ、パラグラフ構成等)を把握し、読解に役立てられるようにする。
Schedule and Contents 法科学(Forensic Science)をテーマとした本テキストでは、犯罪捜査に用いられる科学的手法について、時に実例を交えながら学びます。

以上の予定で、各回ペアワークやグループワーク、プレゼンテーションを通して、他者とのディスカッションを行いながら読み進めていきます。
Evaluation Methods and Policy ・小テスト(語彙や内容理解に関して、ほぼ毎回実施)…30%
・発表・課題…20%
・期末試験…50%

5回以上欠席した場合は成績評価の対象としない。

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) 予習:
・次の授業で扱う範囲を読み通し、分からない語句の意味を調べておく。
・難解・不明な箇所を明らかにしておく。その際、難しいと感じるのが、語句・文構造・内容のいずれなのか、明確にしておいてください。

復習:
・予習時の理解や解釈が適正であったか確認する。
・難解・不明だと感じていた箇所について、もう一度その部分を読み通し、正しく意味が取れるか確認する。
・自らにとっての新出語彙や表現を、確実に覚える。
