Outline and Purpose of the Course |
This is a course in English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP) with a primary focus on listening comprehension, thinking, and writing skills. Integrated tasks focused on all skills will be used throughout the course. Students will engage in the types of listening and note-taking skills required in higher education settings. In addition to language skills, the course aims to expose students to a selection of content material for critical examination. Students need to take an active role in lessons. 本授業では,主にリスニングおよびライティング技能に焦点を当てた一般学術目的の英語(EGAP)を扱う。授業では,技能統合型タスクを用いて,高等教育の場で必要とされるリスニングやノートテイキング課題に取り組む。言語技能の向上に加えて,教材の内容を批判的に検討するなど,積極的な授業参加が求められる。 |

Schedule and Contents |
Sessions 1-3 Students will first explore their own strategies with the goal of developing them further. Examples of strategies will be displayed and discussed. Sessions 4-7 A theme will be chosen for critical listening, analysis in discussion and writing. Popular styles of note taking will be introduced for students to practice while listening. Sessions 8-10 This section will focus on using notes in academic writing and presentation. In addition, part of the active listening practice will involve students discussing their ideas from notes they have taken. Sessions 11-14 Students will continue to do short presentations and summaries of listening materials. Session 15 Feedback |
