| Outline and Purpose of the Course | この授業では、会話やコミュニケーションをテーマとした社会言語学の専門書をテキストとし、学術的な英語文献を読み進める。重要性の高い構文や文法事項の再確認を行うと共に、著者の主張を適正に解釈する読解力と応用力を身につけ、専門学部での英語講読の基礎作りを行うことが目的である。 | |||

| Schedule and Contents |
この授業では、社会言語学の第一人者である Deborah Tannen による You Just Don't Understand を読み進める。本書のテーマは男女間のコミュニケーションである。身近な事例を豊富に用い、会話スタイルの男女の相違に関する著者の主張が展開されている。授業では、Chapter 2 ("Put Down That Paper and Talk to Me!": Rapport-talk and Report-talk) を中心に、以下の予定で精読する。 第1回：Introduction (1) 第2回：Introduction (2) 第3回：Rapport-talk and Report-talk 第4回：Private Speaking: The Wordy Woman and the Mute Man 第5回：Best Friends 第6回：Talk to Me!
