Outline and Purpose of the Course	中級レベルのテキスト読むために必要な能力をやしなう。授業では、いろいろなトピックのテキストを読むだけでなく、かんたんな文法、言葉、表現を使いながら、トピックに関する意見を言う練習もおこなう。 The main goal of this course is for students to acquire reading comprehension skills necessary for understanding intermediate level texts. In this class, students will be required not only to read texts on various topics but also to express their own opinion on the topics introduced in each lesson by using basic grammar, vocabulary and expressions.
Course Goals	・中級レベルのテキストの内容や言いたいことを理解できる。・かんたんな言葉や表現を使って他の人と意見を交換できる。・日本語能力試験N3レベル/CEFR B1に相当するレベルを達成する。 Course goals are as follows: -To be able to understand the content and main idea of intermediate level texts. -To be able to exchange one's opinions with others by using basic vocabulary or expressions. -To attain a level of proficiency equivalent to the JLPT N3 or CEFR B1 levels.
Schedule and Contents	授業では、読解と関連テーマについて意見を言う練習を行う。また、毎回ミニクイズを行う。授業計画と内容は以下の通り。第1回ガイダンス／読解「おしゃべりのきっかけ」第2回食・買い物に関する文章を読む第3回時間に関する文章を読む第4回緊急事態に関する文章を読む第5回地域に関する文章を読む第6回世代間交流に関する文章を読む第7回感情に関する文章を読む第8回言葉に関する文章を読む第9回旅に関する文章を読む第10回健康に関する文章を読む第11回カルチャーショックに関する文章を読む第12回情報に関する文章を読む第13回環境に関する文章を読む第14回科学に関する文章を読む期末試験第15回　フィードバック授業予定は学生の能力によって変わることがある。 This course requires students to read passages on various topics and to give their opinion. Students are supposed to take a mini-quiz every after each class. The course schedule is as follows: Week 1 Course guidance/ Reading texts on finding a chance to talk Week 2 Reading texts about food and shopping Week 3 Reading texts about time Week 4 Reading texts about emergencies Week 5 Reading texts about various places in Japan Week 6 Reading texts about intergenerational exchange Week 7 Reading texts about feelings Week 8 Reading texts about verbal expressions Week 9 Reading texts about traveling Week 10 Reading texts about health Week 11 Reading texts about culture shock Week 12 Reading texts about the information society Week 13 Reading texts about the global environment Week 14 Reading texts about science Final exam Week 16 Feedback The schedule may change depending on students' abilities.
Evaluation Methods and Policy	・「参加態度」30%、「ミニクイズ」30%、「期末試験」40%で評価する。・5回以上の欠席者は評価の対象としない。・The student’s final grade will be based on 1) in-class participation (30%), 2) mini-quizzes (30%), and 3) final exam (40%). ・Students who are absent from 5 or more class sessions will not be evaluated.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review)	授業で学んだ文法、言葉、表現などを復習すること。 Students are expected to review the grammar, vocabulary and expressions introduced in each class.
