Outline and Purpose of the Course | Students will be introduced to issues surrounding scientific writing and presenting. Topics will include how to avoid some of the most common errors of expression (both written and oral), through the use of examples and opportunities to practice. Focus will be on how to structure a scientific report and to write concisely in English, again with help from real-life examples. Teaching will include open discussions and opportunities for students to participate in “mini-symposia” as both presenters and discussants. | |||
Course Goals | Students completing the course will have improved knowledge of the structure of scientific papers and presentations, as well as clearer ideas of what to do and what not to do to write or present successfully in English. | |||

1. Introduction. Aims of scientific writing 2. Common errors to avoid when writing 3. Basic structure of psychology research papers 4. Writing in concise English 5. Evaluation Methods and Policy | Evaluation will be based on class participation (20%), a short oral presentation (10%) and a final written exam (70%). | |||
