Outline and Purpose of the Course Through a virtual journey to discover Italy, the course aims to provide the tools for the conversation on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to: art, music, literature, cinema, food and sport. In this journey, students will learn about some of the most interesting aspects of Italian culture, between tradition and innovation, familiarizing themselves with the lexicon of everyday life, travel, and leisure. Therefore, they will acquire a more confident command of the Italian language in its written and oral production, expanding their vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and strengthening grammatical and syntactic skills.
The seminar requires an active interaction of the students. Classes will be held entirely in Italian.
Course Goals Students will use Italian to interact during classes. They will learn to manage the fundamental communication functions, understanding and producing simple - oral and written - Italian texts. They will become familiar with the conversation on essential daily life topics. They will demonstrate awareness of basic grammatical structures and vocabulary. They will deepen their knowledge of Italian culture. They will be able to watch and discuss a film in Italian, prepare a short oral presentation and perform it in front of the class.
Schedule and Contents 1: 'Travel Plan': Introduction.

2-12: 'Journey to Italy': the journey includes some of the most beautiful cities of Italy and the conversation on central topics of Italian culture, as art, museums, poetry, literature, food, fashion, theater, music, cinema, sport, and entertainment. Screening and commentary of an Italian movie.

13-14: 'Postcards from Italy': presentations prepared by students.

15: Feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will depend on: 1. active participation in class, 2. exercises and homework, 3. final presentation. Therefore, attendance is mandatory. No more than three absences are allowed.
Course Requirements Refer to "Handbook of Liberal Arts and General Education Courses".
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) The instructor will assign exercises and homework after classes.
