Outline and Purpose of the Course We first explain fundamentals of pattern recognition, clustering methods with several distance measures, and discriminant functions with their learning methods. We then introduce advanced classifiers such as HMM, SVM and CRF and also related topics of machine learning theory, which includes EM learning, the MDL criteria, and Bayesian learning.
