Outline and Purpose of the Course This class provides you with the outlines of engineering methodology with information and communication technology as its core element for improving the safety, efficiency and reliability of traffic and transportation systems and reducing the environmental burden. Concretely, we discuss the applicability of countermeasures, such as Travel Demand Management, modal-mix in transportation systems, traffic safety improvement schemes for relieving contemporary problems in traffic and transportation systems, in addition to brief introduction of innovative approaches to collect high-quality of real-time traffic data. Moreover, the methodology for policy evaluation and the related basic theory are explained.
Course Goals Goal of this class is to cultivate basic and critical abilities of students for implementing effective traffic and transportation management using ITS (Intelligent Transportation System).
