Outline and Purpose of the Course (Aim) Through classes on the pioneering research being conducted in each area of pharmaceutical sciences, this course aims to equip students with the broad perspective and grounding they will need to excel as drug discovery researchers and educators.
(Summary) In this course, there will be lectures on the results of pioneering research related to research fields including organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biological chemistry, which will be followed by discussions. Visiting lecturers will be invited to lecture where appropriate.
Course Goals Through classes focused on the pioneering research being conducted in each area of pharmaceutical sciences, students will acquire the broad perspective and grounding they will need to excel as drug discovery researchers and educators.
Schedule and Contents (1)-(5) Introduction to and discussion of pioneering research in organic chemistry (Takemoto, Takasu, & Ito (M))
(6)-(10) Introduction to and discussion of pioneering research in physical chemistry (Matsuzaki, Kato (H), & Ishihama)
(11)-(15) Introduction to and discussion of pioneering research in biological chemistry (Takeshima, Nakayama, Futaki, Kimura, Igaki, Koyanagi, Ikuta, Ito (T), & Hashiguchi)
Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on lecture attendance and subject reports they may be assigned based on lectures.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students should attend the course with a clear understanding of the state and issues of the research topics and related fields.
