Outline and Purpose of the Course Academic supervisors and visiting lecturers from pharmaceutical companies will give lectures on the latest, most advanced and specialist topics related to project planning, project management, and general IST within pharmaceutical IT businesses in drug discovery projects. Foreign lecturers will occasionally be asked to give lectures or partake in research presentations and discussions in order to cultivate students' English communication skills and international approach.
Through special lectures, this course aims to equip students with important knowledge about various areas of pioneering research in the interdisciplinary fusion field of life sciences and information science; the course also aims to equip students with the applied foundations they will need in drug discovery.
Course Goals To acquire important knowledge about the various areas of pioneering research in the interdisciplinary fusion field of life sciences and information science, and establish the applied foundations necessary for drug discovery.
Schedule and Contents Each of the following subjects is anticipated to account for 2 weeks of classes:

1. State and prospects of pharmaceutical sciences research and education in graduate schools
2. Latest reaction and synthesis in organic compounds
3. Latest information in natural products chemistry, Chinese herbal medicines, and crude drugs
4. Recent chemical biology research in drug discovery research
5. Latest in chiral technologies and green chemistry
6. Latest process chemistry in drug discovery research
7. Foundations of information technology
8. Overview of research in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences regarding statistical science and knowledge science
9. Overview of research in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences regarding intellectual property and business models
10. Overview of research in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences of IT businesses through calculation exercises
11. Genomic drug discovery sciences and pharmacological genomics
12. Genomic drug discovery sciences and personalized medicine
13. State of clinical research and themes in medical practice
14. State and prospects of drug discovery project research in pharmaceutical companies
15. Discussion
Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on attendance and subject reports assigned based on class content.
