Number of Credits 1 Course Type Practical training
Target Year 1st and 2nd year master's students Target Student
Language Japanese Day/Period
Instructor name IGAKI TATSUSHI (Graduate School of Biostudies Professor)
Outline and Purpose of the Course In this course, students will design practical training and plan experiments related to genes and signal transduction mechanisms in Specialized Training for Pharmacy 4 for Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences undergraduates. They will prepare and conduct preliminary experiments prior to practical training and guide undergraduate students during practical training.
Course Goals This course aims to teach students experiment methods and approaches in biochemistry and molecular biology relating to genes and signal transduction mechanisms, and also aims to develop their experiment planning skills and teaching methods.
Schedule and Contents Syllabus

1-15: The following practical training will be held:

Design and planning of practical training
Design practical training and plan experiments relating to genes and signal transduction mechanisms

Preparation and preliminary experiments
Prepare practical training content relating to genes and signal transduction mechanisms to explain to undergraduate students, and carry out preliminary experiments to assess the validity of experiment plans

Lead practical training
・DNA isolation and refinement processes, and the limited decomposition of DNA using restriction enzymes
・Plasmid extraction and plasmid insertion into E. coli through electroporation
・ DNA base sequence determination through fluorescence sequencing and computer-based base sequence analysis
・ Analysis of the molecular mechanisms of JNK-signal dependent cell death
・ Analysis of wound treatment response
Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be comprehensively evaluated based on practical training attendance, development and planning of practical training, preparation and preliminary experiments, and the quality and appropriateness of their instruction in practical training.
Course Requirements None
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students should prepare and carry out preliminary experiments for practical training before it begins to make sure it will work well.
