Outline and Purpose of the Course	Students will understand the mechanisms and policies relating to health and medical welfare in Japan and other countries and the functions and role of advanced nurse practitioners in improving the quality of nursing. Students will acquire the knowledge necessary to perform the duties of an advanced nurse practitioner by bringing together the relevant people so that high quality medical care can be given to those who need it.
Course Goals	Acquire skills to: 1. Offer an overview of issues in nursing in the current Japanese context with respect to health and medical care policies. 2. Understand health, welfare, and labor administration, and examine its relationship with practical work. 3. Understand the healthcare decision-making process in Japan. 4. Understand the fundamental concepts relating to nursing management. 5. Understand the trends and issues of treatment safety management in Japan. 6. Understand nursing quality assessment and quality indicators. 7. Analyze and plan for quality improvements. 8. Trends and roles expected of an advanced nurse practitioner within an organization, and acquire the foundation necessary to play the role of a change agent.

Evaluation Methods and Policy	Comprehensive assessment based on lecture attendance (40%), presentation skills (30%), and content of the report (30%).
