Outline and Purpose of the Course This project is for students writing a research thesis for Science and Technology in the Public Sphere. Its purpose is to connect professional disciplinary expertise with problem-solving in public policy.
Course Goals Through research and writing connecting science/technology to social policy from a public perspective, students will enhance their abilities to use the knowledge and skills acquired in this program, while making best use of their professional disciplines.
Schedule and Contents Using specific topics and methodology related to science and technology innovation policies, students will carry out a project of individual or collaborative research related to Science and Technology in the Public. Sphere, on which they will write and submit a research thesis (in Japanese or English). Students choose their own research themes in consultation with their program advisors. (Their project content may or may not overlap that of their major academic thesis.)
The research project is designed and critiques through STiPS presentation sessions in the first year, oral presentation to joint Kyoto and Osaka University STiPS faculties in December of the second year precedes submission of the completed thesis.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Comprehensive evaluation based on assignments, presentations, and project thesis.
Course Requirements Before taking this class, students should consult about their research project with their primary academic advisor as well as their STiPS advisors.
