Outline and Purpose of the Course |
The purpose of this course is to understand the political and social impact of geographical knowledge and to consider the potential and problems of regional geography for understanding of regions and the world through a dynamic regional geography of Bangladesh, which focuses on the relationship between regions and their specific elements. The course consists of three parts as the following. Part 1 The imapact of regional geography published by the British colonial administration on nation-state and society in (post)colonial era Part 2 Development in Bangladesh classified into an "underdeveloped" "Third Wolrd" country under the cold war system Part 3 The relationship between Japan and Bangladesh attracting a great deal of attention as a supplier of cheap labor force |

Course Goals | Participants are expected to understand the process of nation-state building, development, the trend of economic growth and their problems in Bangladesh and develop their own opinions on regional geography's potential and problems for understanding of regions and the world. | |||

Evaluation Methods and Policy | The final grade will be evaluated by quality of comment paper (week 2-14, each 5 points=45 points) and final report (55 points). | |||
Course Requirements | Although partcipants are expected to complete the course of Geography (Special Lectures) "History and contemporary meaning of regional geography" in the first semester, it is not a necessary condition for participation to this course. However, those who do not take the course of "History and contemporary meaning of regional geography" should attend the first lecture (Week 1 Introduction) as far as possible. | |||
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) | Participants need to submit a comment paper (the file should be word or PDF) by the next Sunday after each class. The method of submit will be shown at the first lecture. | |||
