Outline and Purpose of the Course We will take up distinctive painters from the Edo period (1603-1868) and also study their real images. We will aim to inspect the lives and works of each artist, deepen our understanding of the divergence between previous research trends and reality, and reconstruct the image of the painters.
Course Goals Improve understanding of the history of painting in the Edo period based on previous research, and use this knowledge as a foothold for future study.
Schedule and Contents In the second semester, we study the works of Edo Rimpa School, while also examining their biographies and works. The numbers in parentheses indicate the number of weeks dedicated to each topic. The lecture order and progress are not set in stone, but will be determined by the lecturer depending on student background and comprehension.

*Feedback methods will be explained in class.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Assessment of final reports. Reports will be assessed based on the level of achievement regarding the learning goals. Those who show original discoveries will be given high marks.
