Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Swahili, a Bantu language, is the national language of Tanzania and Kenya. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in East Africa. Students will learn basic Swahili grammar like noun classes that are typical of Bantu languages, vocabulary, sentence patterns and conversational expressions. The major goals of this course are to enable students to understand basic Swahili grammar and to develop communicative skills in Swahili for daily conversation. Students will be explained about grammar and dialogues in the textbook with composition practice to acquire the ability to compose sentences. Through additional explanations about backgrounds of distinctive expressions in Swahili, students will gain cultural and social knowledge on East Africa. Relevant objects and photos will be introduced in class. |
