Outline and Purpose of the Course Study basic linguistic concepts for understanding modern Russian.
Course Goals Keeping in mind the various fundamental problems in studying the structure of the modern Russian language, this course aims at improving reading comprehension and enhancing the ability to gather information about specialized fields.
As opposed to studying Russian as a foreign language, the students will gain an understanding from the linguistic perspective.
Schedule and Contents The following concepts will be covered with one to three classes for each topic.

・Alphabets, orthography
・Phonetics
・Lexicology
・Theory of word formation
・Aspect
・Syntax
・Stylistics
・Proper noun theory
・Russian in Russia and in other countries
・Language norms and etiquette

Fifteen classes will be conducted.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation is primarily based on class participation, marks, submission of reports, etc.
Target percentage required in comprehensive evaluation, after taking into account the abilities of the students and how to address them, judged organically, is approximately 50 percent.
Course Requirements Students must know Russian.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Instructions will be given during class.
