Outline and Purpose of the Course [Course Overview]
In this course, we will verify the current state and challenges in medieval Japanese history studies, summarize the Middle Ages in general, and aim to construct a medieval religious history from new angles. This year, we will primarily discuss the relationship between gods (Shinto) and the Buddha (Buddhism). We will be handling questions of religious history, but the aim is not on a narrow field of history, but rather history in the broad sense, or cultural history, including political, socioeconomic, religious, and ideological history.
